Typically these types of caller(s) prey on Seniors and target areas where they know there is access to a local money transfer type of business.
RCMP are encouraging the public to use diligence when requested to send
cash and or cheques as well as money orders. The caller is hoping you will send
the cash immediately and will try their best to convince you that it is
urgent..
RCMP cannot stress enough that you should not wire money to a stranger and
some of the ways to avoid money transfer scams are; anyone who insists payment
be made by a transfer, someone advertising an apartment or vacation rental
online, an online love interest asking for money, and as mentioned, someone
claiming to be a relative in desperate need of money by saying their in an
accident, need to be bailed out of jail and generally their in some form of
trouble and do not want the rest of the family to know about it.
If you have not lost any money and have not provided personal or financial
information (relating to fraud or scam), and you simply want to inform the
appropriate organizations, report it to the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre <http://www.antifraudcentre.ca> or
